Update: July to Sep 2012

The period saw some more admissions happening, fees, books & bus-passes being supported. And, we had our Annual Day and a Quiz event. Regular Sunday classes continued.

Student update

12th re-exams saw one of our student – Usha – clear her subjects and join main-stream BCom course. So of the 12 students who took the exams in April 2012, 11 have cleared the exams, 10 have joined degree courses and continue to be supported by us, and we have lost contact with 2 students.

We have 4 students in final year BE, and two of them have made to TataElxi and MindTree thru campus placements.

Two of our BSc passed student joined MSc. One of them joined Biotechnology at Bangalore University, Jnanabharathi campus and the other Chemistry at Bangalore University, Central college campus.

Events

We had our Annual day on Sep 23rd, an occasion for us to reach out to donors, potential volunteers and parents of students. Kiran(3rd BCom) & Pooja(2nd BCom) compeered the event. The event had a presentation on FoCh(attached in this mail), covering the activities of 2011-12, and plans for the current year. BCom students Pavan & Veena made a presentation on the Education system in India, which was well received. Various culturals from students kept us enthralled all thru. Felicitation of the 18 degree passed out students, the 10 pre-university(12th grade) passing out students, and Quiz finalists followed. We had good participation from our NGO partners – Prerana, Belaku & DSF. Pramod from Prerana, Maitreyee from DSF & Ballapa HM from Corporation high school, Bharathinagar gave motivational talks to the students. The event saw enthusiastic participation from our students, volunteers and donors.

We had a General Knowledge Quiz event on 9th Sep, which saw participation from 55 students ranging from 1st PU to final year degree. The top 12 students from a written test stepped it to the finals, and made up the 4 teams. It was good to see couple of students from 1st PU making it to the finals.

Student birthday’s celebrations continued, with 3rd Sundays being now fixed for a combined cake cutting.

Budget Figures

Financial for the last quarter in INR is as follows. Opening balance was 1,15,464. Donations received were 1,95,100, interest from Bank 3070. Our expenditure was 2,47,831 with 45% on fees, 21% on bus-pass, and 14% on books among others. The closing balance is 67,035.  The need for the current quarter is around 1.5-2 lakhs. Plans & Needs

  • We plan to have a medical camp for our students in the coming months. If you have any contacts with diagnostic labs/hospitals that can help us out on this, do let us know.
  • one day outing with students(once in 2 years atleast) is being planned during Dec-Jan.
  • Personality development sessions from Amicorp is being planned.
  • New volunteers, who joined our team this year are Amandeep, Priyamvada, Raghavendra, Rajendra, & Amarnath. This has been a major fillip to us, we still need more volunteers to support us with operational, teaching & mentoring activities.

Invite – Friends of Children Annual Day – Sep 23rd

Friends of Children Trust will host its Annual Day – 2012 on September 23rd at St. Teresa School Chamarajpet. It is an occasion for showcasing the highlights and challenges of the academic year gone by, success stories of students, interaction with students, donors, parents and volunteers. The event will also provide a platform for the students to showcase their talents on-stage.

All students and volunteers at FoCh are looking forward for your presence and participation in the event. Do bring all your friends who would like to have a glimpse of the growing FoCh family. Direct words of encouragement to our students from the donors and supporters community will go a long way in boosting their motivation and determination.

While we are still looking for contacts for jobs for our students who have just completed degree, 5 of our students have had success through campus interviews.

3 students – Infosys BPO

2 students – Airtel 

 3 other students have managed to land up jobs for themselves in private companies.

There are 12 more BCom students looking for jobs, any leads/contacts would be appreciated.
